Well, some unfortunate news to report. Our first major mishap occurred en route to Venice Beach to see friends Tania and Matt, with their darling and now four-month old baby girl, Jade Amelie. We stopped halfway in Pismo Beach and stayed the night at a hotel. Bri took a fall in the hot tub area and got a very bad laceration on his chin. It was pretty ugly. He and I rode in the ambulance to the local hospital, where he got several stitches. He was so brave and stoic, even as it was really, really scary. Lots of blood. Luckily, we encountered a young ER doc who had worked in a pediatric ER prior to coming to this smallish town, and he was wonderful on the job. The photo here shows Bri post-procedure, waiting for Dad, Gabey, and Trev to pick us up. He is on the mend now - in good if a somewhat subdued spirits - stitches come out in a few days. We are watching over him closely, this is for sure. Jason and I are still in something of a recovery period too, after this one.
After all the hullaballoo, with doctor's clearance, we decided to finish the trek to the LA area - where we had a wonderful weekend, despite our troubles. Baby Jade is precious beyond belief - a truly beautiful baby girl - with a delightful temperament and parents who are hopelessly in love. It was a joy to see their family so happy together. We played in the Grim's backyard, enjoyed Tania's cooking and Matt's grilling, and frolicked on the beach. Brian had a great time, stitches and all. (PHotos to follow on those happier notes soon).
This is a poem my Dad wrote today about the chincident, hot off the presses from Clifton Forge. I love it.
A TRIP INTERRUPTED
We sat at home one winter’s night
When Catbird called and gave us a fright.
The reason that Catherine had made the call,
Was to tell us The Beezer had taken a fall.
The Wrights decided to visit L.A.
And stopped at a motel along the way.
They entered the Inn for an overnight stay
They’d arrive in L.A. the very next day.
Brian and Gabe would have some fun
Into the hot tub did both of them run.
The water was warm; they saw the stars.
They probably saw the planet Mars.
The Beezer had noticed there was a pool.
To swim next day would be pretty cool.
Brian and Gabe turned in for the night.
Ready to arise at the dawn of daylight.
The Wrights arose on the Pacific rim.
Brian told Jason, let’s take a swim.
Jason told Brian, it’ll be okay.
We’ll take a dip and then I’ll pay.
Out to the pool did Brian go.
Jason told him to take it slow.
Before they could even take a dip.
The Beezer suffered a sudden slip.
Before they knew it Brian was down.
He hit his noggin onto the ground.
Beezer looked up and that was when
Jason discovered Brian hurt his chin.
On to the hospital Brian would go
Was he hurt, we wanted to know.
The Doc said, Brian, don’t start fussin
Compared to others,” you ain’t got nothin.”
Quickly the doctor fixed the cut.
The Beezer wouldn’t fall into a rut.
He said we have the rest of the day
Let’s load up and head to L.A.
I’ll bring this silly verse to its end.
The Beezer is my very best friend.
It’s clear to me, when the going get rough,
Is when Brian Wright starts to get tough.
How scary glad everything turned out okay. Did you keep his stitches for his baby book? (I did when D had her stitches) I didn't your father was so talented. Loved the poem.

Bri, what a big boy bandage you have....I hope the lollipop made you feel at least a little better. We've heard how brave you were during your procedure and that you continue to stay strong and carry on. Extra hugs and kisses-XOXO Nana
PS Hugs and kisses to Gabriel too-we heard you were extra good during the trip and provided Brian moral support.

OH my, chins (and shins) are so easily split and the ensuing blood flow can freak any parent out. So glad everything turned out ok, including your weekend. The poem was delightful, till the end when the tears started to flow. Very beautiful.
Hugs to both boys, see you soon. xoxoxoxo
